Average Rental Rates Stall For Portable Restroom Operators
|
Portable restroom operators
struggle to enhance average rental
rates despite growing acceptance
of the portable sanitation industry

Excluding additional line items such as pick up and delivery, damage waivers and an array of surcharges the
average portable restroom rental rates across the United States came in at $69.50. According to a Journal polling
taking place in November 2003, portable restroom contractors appear to be utilizing line items rather than actual
rate increases in order to cover rising cost associated with doing business. Results of the polling, reflect, overall
that portable restroom rental pricing has not significantly moved upward in more than 20 years. Portable restroom
operators were asked to provide average numbers for the territories they serve rather than a quoted over the phone
rate in order to provide a more accurate number.
West coast as well as North east numbers consistently came in higher, although pockets within these areas
revealed pricing far below the average. In California, average portable restroom pricing topped at the $80.00 per
month range in the north, while further south, in San Diego portable restroom rental rates averaged $56.00
reflecting price wars within the region. Nearly fifteen years ago San Diego portable restroom contractors displayed
numbers nearly $20.00 per month higher than recorded during this poll. The Los Angeles/Orange County areas
hovered slightly above the national average at $72.00 per month.
The highest posting was based in the North east at $86.00 but portable restroom rental contractors within the area
acknowledge the costs in doing business is much higher requiring higher rates.
Florida came in with the lowest average portable restroom rental numbers posting an average of $58.00 or $11.50
shy of national averages. The sun belt and northern tier of the country fell within the normal range while Midwest
areas such as Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky revealed numbers closely related to that of Florida.
